ShortStack Strategy (7)

Ugh! This is not going so well lately. I'm starting to lose confidence, but we'll see what happens. I'm either gonna stop when I hit $100 (lose $50 overall) or get to $300 (double my money). I'm posting all hands that I lost to make sure I'm playing ok. Start a thread at FCP or post a comment here.

Hand 1
Hero: Ac As $9.50
utg limps, folds, sb completes, hero raises to $2, utg calls, sb folds

Flop: Qc Jh Jc
hero pushes $7.50, utg calls

Turn and River blank

utg shows Ah Js

-$9.50

What do I do on the flop? I'm not folding to a raise right?

Hand 2
I have TT and raise to $2, button raises to $12, I call($7.25)
He had JJ and I lost. Is this a bad call?

Hand 3
I raise with QQ get re raised, I push, he calls, he had AA.
His hand holds, we both hit a set though :(

ShortStack Strategy (4)

Played another short session.

Hand1
: Td Ts ($7.75)

Pre Flop
utg calls, folds, mp raises to $1, fold, A raises to $3, fold, hero pushes to $7.75, folds, A calls

Board 7d 9d 9c 5c 2s

A shows Ah Qd

Win $16.75 (net $9.00)

I pushed here b/c the min raise could have been anything (I was fairly sure he would fold). The re-raise worried me a bit, but judging by the game it was probably 2 overs.

Hand2: 3d 5d ($8.75)

Pre Flop
utg folds, utg+1 calls, utg+2 calls, fold, mp2 calls, folds, hero completes, BB checks

Flop 9d 4d 3h
hero bets $2, folds, utg+2 calls, folds

Turn 6d
hero pushes for $6.25, utg+2 calls

River Qh

utg+2 shows Kd Ks

Win $17.50 (net $8.75)

Thank you for limping pf utg+2

Other hands, I played a top pair hand out of the blinds pretty poorly and busted. I think that was the only other hand I was all in. Still trying to optimize the blind play. How do you guys feel about the complete 35s?

ShortStack Strategy (2)

Played my second session and it went well. If anyone wants to discuss the strategy or hands played just leave a comment or make a post about it at FCP
Hand 1: Ac As ($11.50)

Pre Flop
utg calls, fold, hero raises to $2.50, folds, BB calls, utg calls

Flop 4s Js 10d
BB checks, utg bets $2, hero pushes for $9, BB goes all in for $38, utg folds

Turn 5h

River 4h

BB shows Kh Jc
Win $26.75 (net $15.25)

Hand 2: 9c 9h ($10.80)

Pre Flop
utg raises to $1, utg+2 calls, mp1 calls, mp2 calls, folds, sb calls, hero pushes $10.80,
utg folds, utg+2 folds, mp1 calls, rest fold

This was fairly loose and maybe(?) against the strategy, but the pot was "big" and I
didn't mind taking it down there and also didn't mind a call.

Board Qc 9s 2s 7c Js

mp1 shows 7s 7d

Win $25.60 (net $14.30)

Other hands to note, I had a hand (could be considered the worst of my life) which I busted with
JJ. Other than that I raised and won a couple $2 pots, but not much else happened.

ShortStack Strategy (1)

Ok poker burnout didn't last long lol. To preface this I am a *bit* more liberal with the hands I play than Miller suggests (I limp almost any pair if the table is passive). Just some small things like that. Also I find myself being a little over aggressive with mid pairs, we'll see how it works out.
Also I always buy in for 20bb and I'm starting at the $50 max nl.

Here's the main hands from the session

Hand 1: 8H 8D
I have $9

I limp utg+1, fold, A calls, B raises to $2, button calls, folds, I push, A calls, B calls

Board AA38K

I win $25 (net $17.25)

Hand 2: 4H 4S
utg limps, folds, I call on button, sb completes, bb checks

Flop 2H QD 2D
checks around

Turn 4C
checks, utg bets $1.5, hero calls, blinds fold

River 7C
utg checks, hero pushes ($7.50), utg calls

He shows AK and I win $19 (net $9.50)

Those were the 2 main ones. I also won a small pot when I flopped top pair from the blind and hit two pair on the turn. I also lost when I pushed with 99 in a three way pot, opponents had JJ and TT.

Stats
Hands Played - 73
Amount Won - $16.50

Some MTT Action

Well I've had my first run of "poker burnout" so I decided to spice it up with some mtt's. I've played 3 in the past 2 days and NO ring games. Here's a run down of them:

1. 157 entrants, $10. I came in 10th, 1 short of the final table and won $23.
This honestly was my best performance ever in a mtt. I've made several final tables and have one 2nd place finish, but this tournament I played great....except for one play at the end which cost me my tournament. I was happy to play as well as I did and I learned from my mistake.

2. 174 entrants, $10. Not much happened in this one. Won some pots lasted to the middle and busted out in 51st.

3. 225 entrants, $10. This one sucked! I was short stacked with about 90 left. I picked up some hands and doubled up a couple times and had a stack of 10k with blinds at 200/400 and 49 people left. Then the hand....folds to the co(9,000) who calls, folds to me in the BB(10,000) w/ KK and I raise to 1200, co calls. Flop comes QTx I pot it he calls, turns a blank I push and he calls w/ KJ (which put him all in), river was a 9 and I was out in 49th. I played ok in this one and it really sucked to go out like that, it happens, but man I was angry.

So overall I finished down $10 in the mtt's, they were fun and a well needed break. I'll probably just be playing casually to January hits. Finals are coming up and I'm gonna be busy. When January starts it's time to focus. One thing I'm going to do is try and keep tedious records.

That's it for now, back to some 2/4 tomorrow.

Possible Life Changing News

Well I guess you'll need some more info to understand this news. So here's some background information. My Grandparents have been in the grocery business all their lives. They have owned the current store for 20+ years now. It's a very successful business and I've been working their since I was 12. Now I just work there over Summer when I'm home from college. The last 3 years I have been a night manager. All the management is family. So now to the news.

My town is fairly small and there's only 1 other grocery store. Well it's been on it's way under in the past 5 years because our store has grown so much. The other grocery store is also union ran and the owner can no longer afford all the benefits and such that union employee's receive. The point, there store is up for sale and my Grandparents want to buy it, and in fact are close in doing so appearantly. So of course they need some more help and that's where I come in. They want me to help run the new store, which would mean I would have to come home from college.

I only have 1 year left after this and would finish if I went home, it would just be much harder having to juggle working full time and having to drive to a college about an hour way a couple days a week. That's not my only problem however. My girlfriend and I bought a house where we go to college. We discussed about her coming back and she wants to stay as she only has about a year and half left. I know we could make it "long distance", it's just she would be virtually alone at college. She would be 3 hours away from most friends and family. I really don't think she wants that, but she's acting like it would be ok.

I don't know this all hit me pretty fast and I'm not sure what to do. Do I want to take the job? My girlfriend and I will be fine. Do I want to drive an hour away to college a couple times a week while working full time? Is the grocery business what I want to do? It's mostly all I've done, so it's the easy thing to do. Still thinking......
